Choosing the right unit for me
Selecting the appropriate model electric tankless relies on the following factors: your geographical location’s incoming water temperature, number of applications (Sink, Shower, sink and shower combination), flow rate for each application, and of course your desired temperature rise.
The difference between the inlet cold water temperature and your desired temperature is called the temperature rise. This rise is a factor determined by the flow of water (GPM) or the amount of water you will be able to heat at one time.
Our sizing guide shows the maximum achievable flow rate for each model based on the inlet water temperature for your area. Please note, the incoming water temperatures are an estimate based on average climate conditions. Each plumbing fixture in your home is set to release a certain flow rate; it is important to understand this. In some cases you might need to restrict the flow to achieve a certain temperature rise.

What is the ideal output temperature for the following applications?

At what temperature does water scald?
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) statesmost adults will suffer third-degree burns if exposed to 150 °F water for two seconds. Burns will also occur with a six-second exposure to 140°F water or with a thirty second exposure to 130°F water. Even at 120°F, a five-minute exposure could result in third-degree burns.
Electric vs. Gas Tankless
The main difference is straightforward…the energy source. Gas units use a Natural Gas (NG) or Propane; whgere as, Electric units connect to the structures existing electrical pane. Testing shows that tankless electric water heaters have a higher energy efficiency compared to gas tankless. This is due to the fact that Gas units operate by burning gas, which is typically inconsistent and harder to control. Gas units require more to the installation in terms of ducting and gas line requirements on top of the normal pluming needs; which tend to be more costly. As mentioned previously, electric units require only plumbing and an electrical connection to the panel. Regarding the upfront costs, Gas units are known to be more expensive than electric tankless. Point-of-Use vs. Multi-Application tankless water heater?
A multi-application tankless electric water heater refers to a unit = large enough to heat multiple hot water applications from one central location. A point of use tankless electic water heater generally only services one to two plumbing fixtures; depending on the kilowatt, and is installed right at the application.
Can I install a plug to my unit?
No, per our instruction manual and for safety reasons, the proper installation requires a direct connection to your electrical breaker. Please also refer to your municipality’s code requirements.
My unit does not power on…
Quick easy steps to troubleshoot:
Refer to your owner’s manual and confirm the correct Breaker Size (Amps), Volts, and Wire size are being used.
Confirm that the unit is wired correctly. If you are unsure about this, please call one of our technicians for assistance.
Check to see if there is power at the terminal block of the unit.
Check the plumbing and make sure that the cold water is connected to the correct inlet side. (refer to owner’s manual) The unit will only activate with water flow when the cold water is installed to the inlet.
Confirm that the unit is receiving at least 0.5 Gallons per Minute; which is the minimum activation rate for your water heater.
Make sure the unit is switched to the “ON” position. If the above stands to be correct, then your heater should turn on once the unit senses water flow.
For our Digital Thermostatic models, ff you are getting hot water even though the digital display does not turn on then the problem is with the electronic board.

Where can I pull through the wires?
For Point of Use units, there should be knock out points along the backside or side of the unit, depending which model you have. Please refer to your manual. Simply cut out which entry point is most convenient for your setup.
Why do I need the grounding plate that came in the packaging for my Point of Use unit if I have grounding in my wire?
We strongly recommend this grounding plate for additional grounding and safety purposes. You can tie this into your grounding wire.
Is the Pressure Relief Device (PRD) Necessary? If so, which side does it get installed on?
Yes, this is required and mandatory for installation. Please refer to your manual for further installation instructions. PRD must be installed on the inlet cold water side.
My water does not get hot enough or My water initially comes out hot, then cools down.
Try to lower the flow rate or GPM (gallons per minute) entering into the unit. The lower the flow rate, the longer the water is subjected to the heating element, which results in a higher temperature rise. For 3kW/110V units, we recommend a flow rate of 0.5 GPM for an optimal temperature rise.

What are my restrictions for a 3kW /110V unit?
This unit is designed for ONLY a SINGLE SINK application in the central and southern states with moderate to warm climates above 51 degrees F. A flow rate of 0.5 GPM is needed for an optimal temperature rise.
Can I install a pre-heated hot water line to the inlet side of my unit? Takes some time before the Hot water gets to the application; therefore, I want to heat the water only till my Hot water arrives… is this possible?
If your unit has our smart, digital thermostatic technology…the simple answer is Yes; because the unit has a built in thermostat to automatically turn the unit on and off when needed.
However, if your unit has manual On/Off switches without the smart, digital thermostatic technology, the answer would be No. Keep in mind that if you size your unit correctly based on your location and the type of application needing hot water, then there would be no need for any pre-heated hot water line. Connect a only a cold water line to the inlet side of the unit and let your Atmor heater be the only source of hot water for the application.
